Convenient holiday bungalows in ancient Anuradhapura Kingdom
North-west of the Sri Maha Bodhi lies a forest of stone pillars, the remnants of Lohamahapaya, which appeared to have been an impressive building dedicated to Buddhist monks more than 2000 years ago in ancient Anuradhapura.
This was initially constructed in the 3rd century BC, and later, King Dutugemunu redesigned it into a grand nine-story chapter house for the Mahavihara monastery, showing the rich culture of Sri Lankan Civilisation.
Known as the Brazen Palace due to its copper-sheeted roof, this impressive structure boasted one thousand rooms exclusively dedicated to the monks of Mahavihara, marking it as a significant architectural and religious landmark in ancient Anuradhapura.
